Garrison’s Rock Lawn is Site of Chapel Restoration’s Cocktail Party

June 9, 2011

Shaw residence; site of Chapel Restoration fundraiser

Rock Lawn, the Garrison home of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Shaw, is the setting for the Chapel Restoration’s 2011 annual outdoor cocktail party. The event to benefit the Cold Spring landmark has, since the summer of 1977, traditionally been held on the second Saturday in June at distinguished area homes and estates. This year’s party takes place this coming Saturday, June 11, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Rock Lawn, an 1852 home in the Italianate Villa style, was designed by the renowned American architect, Richard Upjohn. Like the Chapel Restoration it is listed on The National Register of Historic Places. Lawn party guests will enjoy wine, beer, soft drinks and hors d’oeuvres in a beautiful lawn and garden landscape with river views. And there will be music by classical/jazz violinist and Chapel Restoration board member Gwen Laster with other local professional musicians who are also donating their talents.
Funds raised by the event will support preservation and programming at the Chapel Restoration. The 1833 building on the banks of the Hudson in Cold Spring was built as a Roman Catholic Church and restored more than three decades ago as a non-sectarian place for all people. Tickets are $60 per person and reservations, which can be made by calling 845-265-5537, are suggested.  Tickets will also be sold at the gate.
